REMS is changing how we understand bone!

REMS is changing how we assess bone. REMS is a newer method of performing standard densitometry, but REMS also offers the additional benefit of assessing the microstructural properties of bone. It is the microstructural properties of that determine bone strength and it is the strength of a bone that determines if it will break – a weak bone breaks; a strong bone is fracture resistant.  That just makes sense! The REMS Fragility Score provides the most accurate method currently available to assess fracture risk. Because REMS is an ultrasound it is safe and portable!

Bone Strength can be assessed anywhere!

REMS examinations are being offered in our CCOA Pittsboro office.  You can schedule an office visit where a REMS assessment will be performed followed by an optional consultation. Your REMS results will be made available to you either through a secure portal that you can access through the website or on a portable USB drive.

If you can't make it to Pittsboro, you can have the convenience of REMS coming to you! There are multiple locations in North Carolina and around the United States that regularly host REMS clinics. Since REMS is ultrasound and does not produce radiation, REMS is portable and will travel to a clinic near you. Please check the website for information and location updates on our mobile REMS clinics.

Knowledge is power!

Following a REMS bone assessment, it is recommended to schedule a 1/2 to 1 hour educational consultation, especially if it is your first REMS assessment. Otherwise, the REMS report could just be another piece of paper with a bunch of confusing numbers, diagrams and graphs. During the consultation, the REMS report will be explained in detail.  The unique aspect of REMS determined bone structure to determine bone strength and fracture risk will be emphasized. The ultimate goal of the consultation is not only to explain the REMS report but to answer your questions! Your questions about other aspects of bone health will be welcomed and addressed in an evidence-based manner!
